Making Disciples

I enjoy gaming. I currently own numerous consoles, along with all my favorite games. Some are considered “old”, but there’s one that holds a special place in my heart.

This game is set in a fantasy world with knights and dragons. It’s a very difficult RPG, and people didn’t want me in their group. I couldn’t even join a guild, because I was ill-equipped. My armor was tarnished and my blade was dull, but I looked sooo impressive!

One day, I found an online site that was offering to help me, for a price. They seemed legitimate…until they weren’t! Fortunately, I discovered it was a scam before investing money.

By this time, I had become frustrated with the game. I had no other options except to do the hard work myself. I began networking to create groups in the game. I became strong enough to join a good guild and eventually started recruiting others to fight alongside me in raids.

The previous gamer terms (RPG, group, guild or raid) may be foreign to some, but the story holds valuable points. We begin our Christian walk as spiritual infants. It can be a difficult journey, but we learn to grow, fight, and even recruit others for battle.

Jesus commands us to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28: 19-20). We are to recruit others for Christ so that they may be saved and even fight alongside us. The act of recruiting is called the Great Commission.

Kinsey enters LOTK in chapter nine. She had gathered a group of men to fight Sahib. Hadwyn was impressed and recruits her to gather others (join a guild). Although Kinsey was strong by this time, her beginnings were humble.

Hadwyn, Kinsey and others who recruit warriors to fight Sahib represent Christians that are fulfilling the Great Commission. Although they are strong fighters, these characters are not immune to mistakes. As even the strongest Christians are not immune to sin.

“He made My mouth like a sharp sword; He hid Me in the shadow of His hand. He made Me like a polished arrow; He hid Me in His quiver.”

Isaiah 49:2
