The Summit
My time as an intern was a wonderful experience. There’s a lot of value in connecting with others and obtaining a strong work ethic, but it’s difficult to work for free. My anxieties were exceeding their previous limits because of life circumstances.
I was living in a delusion, and the books would never sell. I had made a critical error by accepting the internship and sacrificing my finances, along with other opportunities. It was time to move on.
The next company meeting had arrived, and I was going to inform Anthony about my decision. Before I had a chance to speak, he made an offer I couldn’t refuse. He was impressed I hadn’t given up and gave me an onsite office and increased my percentage in sales.
Interns are fortunate to even get noticed, and I was greatly encouraged by his generosity. The anxieties somewhat calmed, and I was motivated to push forward.
I quickly completed the first book, and then continued with the others. Within a few months, the company had complete versions of the books from Kindergarten through Second grade.
Before the final print, Anthony approached me. He wasn’t pleased with the front cover and wanted to make a serious correction. I wanted to roll my eyes. Really? You’re going to tell me now… so, I thought. But I remained calm. “Would you like to be co-author?” he smiled.
“Yes!” I shouted. What an honor and an amazing moment in my life. I suddenly went from intern to a published author of a series. He wanted me to add my name to the cover! I felt I had finally arrived! Ashley and I celebrated our success with a dinner we couldn’t afford.
